COVID-19 has led to many institutes stopping visitors, public schools shutting down, universities cancelling classes and events with large groups, and banning all international travel for their staff and guests. The Canadian government has now closed international travel, and some provinces have enacted a state of emergency.
Given this, it is with great sadness that we will be cancelling GRIDS later this Spring. While it is too early to know what our plans are for GRIDS2021, we will reach out to the community as soon as we know. This site will also be updated at that time.
In the meantime, the McDonald Institute will soon begin exploring ways to bring our content and programs to an online platform. Please join our newsletter to get updates about our programming: https://mcdonaldinstitute.ca/newsletter-archive/.

GRIDS2020 will take place at the Université de Montréal, in Montréal Quebec, Canada
Lectures will occur at the Pavillon des Sciences, 1375 Avenue Thérèse-Lavoie-Roux, Montréal. This is easily reached from either the l'Acadie or Outremont métro stations.
Laboratory sessions will take place at the Pavillon Réné-J.A.-Lévesque, 2905 chemin des Services, Montréal on the main Université de Montréal campus. This can be reached from the Université de Montréal métro station.

A limited number of twin ($42/night) have been set aside for attendees at ZUM Hotel.
Accomodation at ZUM is to be prepaid with your collaboration meeting registration. Please indicate on your application your intended dates of stay at ZUM.
If you are traveling from outside Canada, you may need a visa to enter Canada. Please refer to the Government of Canada site (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp) for instructions on how and who needs to apply for a Visitor’s Visa to come to Canada.
US citizens carrying a valid US Passport do not require a Visa to come to Canada. Residents of the US who carry a passport from a country listed on the Government of Canada site will need an Invitation Letter from the Conference Chair to attach to their Visitor’s Visa Application. Please give sufficient time for processing. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/index.asp for an estimate of processing times.
As of March 15, 2016 any participants from visa-exempt countries will need to apply for an eTA. The eTA costs $7.00 and allows for pre-screening of visa exempt nationals. Please see the link for details related to the eTA. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta.asp
To request an invitation letter to attach to your Visitor's Visa application please send your request by email to grids@triumf.ca after you submit your application.
Getting around by transit is easily. Campus is directly served by the Montreal Métro. Connect between the airport and the Métro by the 747 bus.
Campus is approximately 25 minutes by a $30 taxi ride from the airport, depending on traffic. While Uber is available in Montreal, we recommend taking taxis which are prevalent, inexpensive, and generally well run. Both Champlain Taxi at 514-271-1111 and Atlas taxi 514-485-8585 run extensive networks with local taxi stands.
